Myanmar - Golden Pine
This washed SL34 Pyin Oo Lwin stands out for its juicy and balanced cup profile, with bright notes of peach and banana, accompanied by an enveloping caramel-like sweetness. Its fruity acidity is well-integrated, giving way to a clean and smooth finish.
Producer
Green Land Estate is a farm located between Pyin Oo Lwin and Mogok, near the border between Mandalay Division and Northern Shan State. It is managed by U Sai Wan, who grew up seeing coffee plantations in this region during family trips from Yangon. Today, he runs one of the largest Arabica plantations in Myanmar, covering approximately 450 acres.
Best practices
U Sai Wan is a key figure in the development of specialty coffee in Myanmar. He has won multiple national quality competitions and is actively involved with the Myanmar Coffee Association. He is also the Sales Director of the Mandalay Coffee Group. The farm is managed by his family, two local agronomists, and community workers.
The crop
Although the Catimor variety predominates at Green Land, this outstanding microlot is SL34, which represents approximately 10% of the total cultivated. Experiments are also underway with other varieties such as Yellow Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai, and Gesha, seeking to improve the quality and genetic diversity of the crop.
