Ruanda - Café des Mamans
Nova Coffee grows specialty red Arabica Bourbon in the warm tropical sunlight and rich vulcanic soils of northern Rwanda.
Surrounded by native tropical rainforest, the 155-hectare coffee plantation of 380,000 trees sits at an altitude of 1800-2000m high, spread across the mountainside and close to the beautiful Muhazi Lake. It is the perfect, idyllic environment to grow a truly unique coffee, with the cherries ripening to a vibrant deep red from mid-March to mid-June.
The farm also has a washing station and a dry mill to process its own coffee and that of 2,880 small producers in the local community, both by the washed and natural methods.
In Nova Coffee's words,
"We believe that coffee has the power to shape Rwanda’s future by uplifting the lives of our farmers, their families, and the entire country. At Cafe de Mamans, we are proud to support women and youth farmers who are at the heart of the coffee industry. Our commitment to empowering them through training and support is a key part of our goal to create a sustainable and equitable coffee industry".
